Opportunities for New Players

Players with a little experience are welcomed into the Golden Rail Band, a fourth section non-contesting band, that is always busy with a variety of engagements.

We rehearse on Tuesday (7:00 - 9.00pm) and Thursday (6.30 - 8.00pm) nights.

Also based in the bandroom is the Railway Institute Band, a contesting band suitable for players with a higher level of competence. They meet Mondays and Thursdays (8.00- 10.00pm).

Maybe you've never played before and want to learn? We can accommodate for you too! If you think this would be a good idea, we rehearse at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. If you have a bit of experience already, then come down at 7:00pm on Wednesday to our Development Band. Check out the Development Band page for more information.

All rehearsals for both the groups are held in the Band Room behind the Railway Institute, Queen Street, York (Close to the railway station). There is free parking next to the bandroom.

We offer a congenial atmosphere in which to learn and develop instrumental skills and musicianship. We are proud that ex-members have moved on into the top ranks of brass banding, military music and professional orchestral work.

New members will be able to decide whether they wish to join before being asked for the annual band subscription.

Instruments are available for loan to band members.

If you would like to play in a brass band
or if you are new to York and are looking for an opportunity to continue playing
or if you are a parent with an enthusiastic child

Just come along on a rehearsal night and walk in for a warm welcome!
